Beginning Segment (BGN)

This segment indicates the purpose, date, and time of the transaction and the beginning of a transaction set. The identification and verification routine includes a reference number assigned by the sending institution or agency and the date and time of transmission. When this information is returned by the receiving institution or agency to the sender, machine processing can establish that a valid transaction was received as intended.
