Since July 2019, when the 2020 Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) list was first released, the Clearinghouse has received a number of questions on when schools can start reporting the new CIP codes and CIP year 2020 value, as well as how these changes will be coordinated with the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) process.
At this time, we have been advised by Federal Student Aid (FSA) that there will be a coordinated effort between NSLDS and COD to ensure the 2020 CIP code implementation is smooth and synced with the 2020 financial aid award year. Last week, FSA announced at their annual training conference in Reno, Nevada, that additional guidance and information regarding the implementation process for 2020 CIP Code changes will be forthcoming and recommended schools continue to stay tuned.
In the Clearinghouse’s regular dialog with FSA and NSLDS, we will continue to discuss this issue and keep institutions updated via our Compliance Central blog and emails, as we receive additional information about this important change.
