New! Warning Code 293 and Revised Warning Code 275, Graduated Enrollment Status Effective Date

The National Student Clearinghouse is introducing a new validation, Warning Code 293, that compares the campus-level “G” Graduated status effective date to the student’s academic term dates.

In addition, Warning Code 275 is being revised to be a passable warning, which will automatically merge corrections submitted on the “G Not Applied” tab into our database. This will expedite processing turnaround and make enrollment available more quickly for enrollment compliance reporting to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) and loan servicer data flow.

The new Warning Code 293 flags records with a Graduated status effective date that is prior to the student’s term begin date. Because it is uncommon for students to have a “G” Graduated enrollment status effective date that predates their term dates, this new flag alerts you that either the status effective date or term dates that have been reported may be incorrect. The new Warning Code 293 can apply flags to all types of enrollment files and manual online update submissions.

What is changing and when?

The following changes are slated to be in place by the end of August 2022.

  • Warning Code 275 will be a passable warning flag on corrections submitted via the “G Not Applied” tab, allowing the update to auto-merge.
    • Warning Code 275 definition: Graduated date not equal to term end date (will not prevent online updates from auto-merging)
  • Warning Code 293 is new. It must be reviewed and corrected.
    • Warning Code 293 definition: Graduation date prior to the current term (must be reviewed/corrected)

Your assigned Data Operations Analyst will reach out to you if there are questions about the accuracy of the Graduated status effective date and term dates.

My school participates in G From DegreeVerify, how will this impact online updates we make using the “G Not Applied” tab?

Participating G From DegreeVerify (pdf) schools can expect these changes to decrease the processing turnaround time of corrections submitted via the “G Not Applied” tab on the Clearinghouse secure site. As a result, “G” Graduated enrollment statuses reported through the “G Not Applied” tab will be accepted into the Clearinghouse database more swiftly, which will, in turn, expedite the data flow to both the NSLDS and the loan servicing community.
