Quarterly PDP Product Updates: Transfer Dashboards, Secure Portal, and Dashboard Filters

The Postsecondary Data Partnership (PDP) team at the National Student Clearinghouse is excited to announce the release of our latest updates to the PDP.

Transfer Dashboards Enhancements

  • Institutional-level and Transfer Benchmarking dashboards: We added timeframes of “0-3” and “0-6” years to the Transferred-Within global filter. These additions to the existing timeframes of “0-2,” “2-3,” “3-4,” “4-6,” and “6-8” years allow users to more accurately — and easily — understand the transfer numbers and outcomes for students across more timeframes.
  • Transfer Benchmarking dashboard: We added a third visualization that focuses on the rates students earn a credential post-transfer from both your institution and the benchmarking institutions. While this was available on the institutional-level dashboard, its addition to the transfer benchmarking dashboard allows for comparison to like institutions for purposes of goal setting and contextualization of your data.

More Dashboard Filter Updates

In addition to the previously released changes to the Early Momentum and Enrollment dashboards, the institutional-level versions of the Outcomes Over Time dashboards (Outcomes, Retention/Persistence, Retention/Persistence Term-to-Term, Transfer, and Time to Credential/Credentials Conferred), have been updated to include:

  • New “Program of Study” Filter, which uses the primary two-digit CIP code reported by the institutions through the Clearinghouse’s Enrollment Reporting service. The value used is the most recent CIP code from the student’s first academic year. The two-digit codes represent the CIP program areas, such as “Education” and “Biological and Biomedical Sciences.” This allows users to review student success at the program level, in combination with other filters and disaggregation.
  • Updated Gender Filter and Disaggregation. The new PDP gender identifiers have been added to the gender dashboard filter and disaggregation. Both now match the gender output on the analysis-ready files with the addition of options for “Prefer not to specify” and “Nonbinary, intersex, and gender-nonconforming.”

Please note, these new identifiers are reported through our optional 2.0 data elements, so only institutions that have reported this data directly through the PDP files will see the new values. More information on the gender variable, including the full list of elements, can be found in the Cohort-Level Analysis- Ready File Data Dictionary. You can also view a webinar recording on submitting the optional 2.0 data elements.

Future Updates, Including How to Grant Access to Your Data

On August 18, 2023, we will change the process for granting access to your data to third parties and educational organizations. Previously, institutions and systems of institutions that chose to share data were required to email us an “Authorized Entities” form that listed what organizations they wanted to share data with and what level of access to provide. This will be replaced with a secure portal that will allow data providers to easily grant third parties access to any combination of their dashboards, their Financial Aid dashboard, or de-identified versions of their analysis-ready (AR) files. Additionally, with this release, third parties and educational organizations will be able to access the secure portal to view the authorizations that have been granted to them by data providers.

The Clearinghouse will continue to improve the PDP in 2023, including updating the benchmarking versions of the Outcomes Over Time dashboards, with the new “Program of Study” filter and the updated gender identifiers. We will also continue to enhance the look, feel, and functionality, of the dashboards as well as the utility of the AR files.
