Dashboard Filter Updates and Redesigned CCR Benchmarking Dashboard

The Postsecondary Data Partnership (PDP) team at the National Student Clearinghouse is excited to announce the release of our latest updates to the PDP.

Dashboard Filters Updates

The Early Momentum (Credit Accumulation Rate – CAR, Credit Completion Ratio – CCR, Gateway) and Enrollment dashboards have all been updated to include:

  • New “Program of Study” Filter
We have added a new “Program of Study” filter to the Early Momentum and Enrollment dashboards. This filter uses the primary 2-digit CIP code reported by the institutions through the Clearinghouse’s Enrollment Reporting service.

The value used is the most recent CIP code from the student’s first academic year. The 2-digit codes represent the CIP program areas, such as “Education” and “Biological and Biomedical Sciences.” This allows users to review student success at the program level, in combination with other filters and disaggregation, for early momentum indicators.

  • Updated Gender Filter and Disaggregation
The new PDP gender identifiers have been added to the gender dashboard filter and disaggregation in the Early Momentum and Enrollment dashboards. Both now match the gender output on the analysis-ready files with the addition of options for “Prefer not to specify” and “Nonbinary, intersex, and gender-nonconforming.”

Please note, these new identifiers are reported through our optional 2.0 data elements, so only institutions that reported this data directly through the PDP files will see the new values. More information on the gender variable, including the full list of elements, can be found in the Cohort-Level Analysis-Ready File Data Dictionary. You can also view a webinar recording on submitting the optional 2.0 data elements.

Credit Completion Ratio Benchmarking Dashboard Redesign

The Credit Completion Ratio (CCR) Benchmarking dashboard has also been redesigned. The credit completion ratio shows how successful students are at completing the credits they attempt in their first year. The CCR Benchmarking dashboard allows users to compare this key performance indicator against a list of benchmarking institutions. Like our previous benchmarking dashboard redesigns, the CCR Benchmarking dashboard now has a scrollable vertical design and improved data disaggregation to allow users to identify equity gaps more quickly. With this update, all PDP benchmarking dashboards now use the new design.

Carnegie Classification Change

Finally, based on user feedback, we have switched Carnegie Classification value 14 (Baccalaureate/Associate’s Colleges: Associate’s Dominant) from the “Baccalaureate Colleges” roll-up category to the “Associate’s Colleges” category on all benchmarking dashboards.

Future Updates

We’ve had a great start to 2023 and will continue to work to improve the PDP, including adding “Program of Study” and expanded gender identifiers to all of our dashboards over the coming months to enable better intersectional analysis. Also, analysis-ready files generated after the next effective date on June 23 will include fields for “Program of Study,” including the original CIP value from the student’s first term and a new field that includes the full 6-digit CIP code for what is shown on the dashboards. Additionally, we continue to work on enhancing the PDP knowledge base. Most recently, we added PDP tutorial videos, created with the Association for Institutional Research (AIR). The new tutorials can be found throughout the PDP knowledge base and by using our guide to the new videos.
