{"id":1560,"date":"2024-04-26T08:39:09","date_gmt":"2024-04-26T12:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/help.studentclearinghouse.org\/vsrequestors\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=1560"},"modified":"2026-10-21T16:54:05","modified_gmt":"2026-10-21T20:54:05","slug":"verification-request-faqs","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/help.studentclearinghouse.org\/vsrequestors\/knowledge-base\/verification-request-faqs\/","title":{"rendered":"Verification Request FAQs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who can verify?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Employers<\/strong>\u202fwho want to verify the credentials of job candidates or current employees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Student service providers<\/strong>\u202fwho are providing a service or benefit to a student or alumni applicant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Students or graduates<\/strong>\u202f who need certification of their own enrollment or degree for personal reference.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Student lenders<\/strong>, including loan servicers and guaranty agencies, who need to verify that students are still eligible to receive student loan deferments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Schools<\/strong>, <strong>states<\/strong>, and <strong>local educational authorities<\/strong> who want to determine the current and historical enrollment statuses of students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-hb-message is-style-info wp-block-paragraph\"><strong class=\"message-label\">Information:<\/strong> Third parties might be required to provide a copy of a student or alumnus\u2019 signed consent to receive verification results. Regardless, you should always obtain signed consent from the individual <em>before<\/em> submitting a verification request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Members of the media or private investigators are not permissible requestors of our Verification Services. We recommend these requestors contact the education institution directly so that the institution can handle these potentially sensitive inquiries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do I receive with my verification?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our verifications confirm key education details, such as degree earned or attendance information, but do not provide copies of diplomas, degrees, or transcripts. You will receive a downloadable PDF certificate containing this information through our website. With API integration, only the verified data is delivered to your system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Degree verifications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Degree verifications for postsecondary schools confirm that a degree was awarded and always include the following: awarding school name, degree title, award date, and the graduating student&#8217;s name as it appears on the degree. It may also include majors, minors, honors, and some dates of attendance, when available. These additional details vary by student, school, and verification product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"\/vsrequestors\/wp-content\/uploads\/DV_CERT_SAMPLE.pdf\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/vsrequestors\/wp-content\/uploads\/dvcert-thumb.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.7743362831858407;width:175px;height:auto\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dates of attendance verifications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dates of attendance verifications always include the name on the school record, the school\u2019s name, and the student&#8217;s attendance dates and enrollment history at that school. Additional details may vary by student, school, and verification product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>High school diploma verifications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">High school diploma verifications confirm a diploma was awarded and include the name on the diploma (the individual to whom it was awarded), high school name, and the award year (but not the exact award date).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"\/vsrequestors\/wp-content\/uploads\/HSDV_CERT_SAMPLE.pdf\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/vsrequestors\/wp-content\/uploads\/hsdvcert-thumb.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.78125;width:175px;height:auto\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can I do if the school I want isn\u2019t listed?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enter more specific information, such as the school\u2019s full name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use the &#8220;<strong>Advanced Search<\/strong>&#8221; option to enter a partial school name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use the school\u2019s location to narrow your search.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review the participating school list (see instructions below). If the school is not on this list, contact the registrar\u2019s office for assistance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To review the participating school lists:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visit&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/degreeverify.org\/\">degreeverify.org<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select one of the download links under <strong>Current Enrollment&nbsp;<\/strong>or&nbsp;<strong>Degrees\/Past Attendance<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why don\u2019t I always get an instant verification?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The record you requested may not be available due to timing (degree not yet conferred or may predate the school\u2019s electronic records), you may have entered incorrect information, or the applicant may have falsified his or her credentials. If Verification Services cannot instantly verify your degree or dates of attendance verification request, you may be asked to provide additional information (e.g., birth date, year or approximate year of degree, etc.). Your research request will immediately be sent to the school. Schools prioritize verification requests from the Clearinghouse. We will send you an email with the verification results. Remember, the more identifying information you can provide about the subject and their academic achievements, the faster the school can track down the applicable records, if available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do I obtain attendance dates for a degree I have already verified?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log onto <a href=\"https:\/\/degreeverify.org\/\">degreeverify.org<\/a> (for login assistance, see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/help.studentclearinghouse.org\/vsrequestors\/knowledge-base\/troubleshooting\/#Forgot_User_Name_or_Password\">Forgot User Name or Password<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click &#8220;<strong>Find Past Verifications<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete the form to search for the transaction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click &#8220;<strong>Show Details<\/strong>&#8221; to display any attendance information that was provided as part of the verification response.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If the attendance dates were not provided, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.studentclearinghouse.org\/contact\/contact-commercial-dispute\/\">submit a dispute request<\/a>. We will research your request with the school and email the results to you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I\u2019ve received more information on the student. How do I resubmit my request?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your verification request has already been closed and the result was \u201c<strong>Unable to Confirm<\/strong>,\u201d you will need to submit a new verification request using the additional information at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/degreeverify.org\/\">degreeverify.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>See <a href=\"https:\/\/help.studentclearinghouse.org\/vsrequestors\/knowledge-base\/submit-a-verification-request\/\">Submit a New Verification Request<\/a> for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your verification request still goes into a \u201c<strong>Pending<\/strong>\u201d status or was closed again as \u201c<strong>Unable to Confirm<\/strong>,\u201d you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.studentclearinghouse.org\/contact\/contact-commercial-dispute\/\">submit a dispute request<\/a>.&nbsp;A Verification Services representative will review the information and determine the next course of action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>See <a href=\"https:\/\/help.studentclearinghouse.org\/vsrequestors\/knowledge-base\/troubleshooting\/#Pending_Verification_Requests\">Pending Verification Requests<\/a> for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I add my own tracking number to a verification request?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes. You can enter your own alphanumeric case or billing ID for your organization\u2019s internal tracking purposes by clicking &#8220;<strong>Add a reference ID to your order<\/strong>.&#8221; Account holders can search for past verifications using the &#8220;<strong>Reference ID<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/vsrequestors\/wp-content\/uploads\/referenceId.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.1428571428571428;width:400px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/vsrequestors\/wp-content\/uploads\/referenceId2.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.1428571428571428;width:400px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why do I need to provide a copy of the individual\u2019s consent?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In accordance with the Clearinghouse\u2019s service terms and conditions, you can only submit an online verification request for an individual who has applied for employment with the organization you represent or who has applied for a discount, product, or service that is dependent on their student status. In some cases, schools will not research their records for the individual\u2019s information until they see signed and dated written consent from the individual authorizing the release of the information to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the school\u2019s agent, the Clearinghouse might require you to provide a copy of the individual\u2019s consent to us. You must email a copy of the signed consent to <a href=\"mailto:degreeverify@studentclearinghouse.org\">degreeverify@studentclearinghouse.org<\/a> with the subject line \u201cConsent process: Transaction ID xxxxxx\u201d within two (2) business days of receiving our request. If we do not receive consent from you within two business days, we will close your request without verification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To download a generic consent form:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click &#8220;<strong>Find Past Verifications<\/strong>&#8221; in the left menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Locate the request that is currently in a \u201c<strong>Pending<\/strong>\u201d status.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click &#8220;<strong>Show Details<\/strong>&#8221; to expand the results of the transaction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click &#8220;<strong>Consent Form<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Will the individual be informed about my request?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By law, upon the request of an individual, we must provide the identity of any requestor who requests or obtains the individual\u2019s information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I specify a different email address for servicing-related emails?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, if you prefer to send service-related emails to a different address than the one associated with your user ID, you can add this on the order summary page under the &#8220;Order Contact Information&#8221; section.
