Six-Year Outcomes Dashboard
CONTENTS
The Six-Year Outcomes dashboard differs from the main Outcomes Dashboard in that it looks at student activity strictly from the cohort institution’s perspective and does not track activity that occurs at other institutions after transfer. It is also limited to cohorts who have completed six full academic years.
Six-Year Outcomes
Six-year outcomes are hierarchical, non-duplicative, and mutually exclusive. Credential and enrollment outcomes are based solely on activity at the cohort institution. The outcomes are:
- Percent of students who earned a bachelor’s degree.
- Percent of students who did not earn a bachelor’s degree but earned an associate degree and subsequently transferred.
- Percent of students who did not earn a bachelor’s degree but earned an associate degree and did not subsequently transfer
- Percent of students who did not earn a bachelor’s or associate degree but earned a certificate (or other formal award) and subsequently transferred.
- Percent of students who did not earn a bachelor’s or associate degree but earned a certificate (or other formal award) and did not subsequently transfer.
- Percent of students who transferred to another postsecondary institution without earning a degree or certificate.
- Percent of students who were still enrolled during the sixth academic year and had not earned a degree or certificate.
- Percent of students who were not enrolled at any time in year six, had not earned a degree or certificate, had no record of transferring to another institution, and earned 30 or more credits.
- Percent of students who were not enrolled at any time in year six, had not earned a degree or certificate, had no record of transferring to another institution, and earned fewer than 30 college-level credits.
Due to the focus on cohort institution activity on the Six-Year Outcomes dashboard, the outcome counts will not match outcomes at six years numbers on the main dashboard.
For example, a student who transferred from the cohort institution sometime before year six without achieving a credential but subsequently received a bachelor’s degree at the transfer institution during year six would be counted as No Award (Transfer) on the Six-Year Outcomes dashboard, but as Bachelor’s at Other Institution on the outcomes dashboard for year six. If they received the degree in some year other than year six, they would be counted as Bachelor’s at Other Institution for the associated Outcomes at period. If they did not receive a degree and were no longer enrolled at the other institution, they would be counted as Not Enrolled for the relevant Outcomes at periods.
Dashboard Sections
There are two visualizations that by default show overall outcomes. You can use the dimension breakdown under Chart Settings to disaggregate outcomes for a selected dimension. Visualizations will default to the most recently completed six-year cohort (only cohorts that have completed six years will be available as filter selections).
Grouped Six-Year Outcomes by Dimension
This visualization classifies students from a selected cohort year into four broad outcome categories:
- Completers: Students who earned any credential at the cohort institution (certificate, associate, or bachelor’s).
- No Award (Transfer): Students who transferred to another postsecondary institution without earning a degree or certificate at the cohort institution.
- Still Enrolled: Students who are still enrolled at the cohort institution at any time in year six.
- Not Enrolled: Students who are no longer enrolled, have not earned a credential, and have no record of transfer.
You can hover over each group to see the detailed metrics for each outcome.
Detailed Six-Year Outcomes by Outcome Type
This visualization gives a more detailed look at what happened to each student in the cohort, assigning them to one distinct outcome category based on the nine hierarchical outcomes as described above.
- Bachelor’s: Received a bachelor’s degree at the cohort institution
- Associate (No Transfer): Received an associate degree at the cohort institution and did not subsequently transfer
- Associate (Transfer): Received an associate degree at the cohort institution and subsequently transferred
- Certificate (No Transfer): Received a certificate at the cohort institution and did not subsequently transfer
- Certificate (Transfer): Received a certificate degree at the cohort institution subsequently transferred
- No Award (Transfer): Transferred without earning a credential at the cohort institution
- Still Enrolled (No Transfer): Enrolled at the cohort institution sometime in year 6 and had not earned a degree or certificate from the cohort institution
- Not Enrolled 30+ Credits: Earned 30+ credits, no credential or transfer
- Not Enrolled <30 Credits: Earned fewer than 30 credits, no credential or transfer
You can hover over each section of the bar chart to see the detailed metrics for each outcome.
